Ricky Starks upcoming match in GCW was canceled and he has been barred from appearing on the independent promotion. Cody Rhodes' sister Teil Rhodes recently commented on the matter by sharing an unfortunate update on The Absolute.
Starks hasn't performed in AEW since March 2024. This past Saturday, he made a surprise appearance at the GCW Dream On event, thus setting up a match with Matt Cardona for GCW: Highest in the Room. However, it was later reported that Tony Khan had pulled him from all upcoming GCW events due to GCW official Effy's negative remarks about him and his father Shad Khan.
Addressing the matter on X (fka Twitter), Teil Rhodes made a humorous yet unfortunate update stating that Ricky Starks might not make it to her house for Thanksgiving because his boss Tony Khan won't allow him to attend. For those who don't know, Starks and Rhodes are close friends.
"I had booked Ricky for Thanksgiving but I guess he can’t come," Teil tweeted.

Ricky Starks addresses potential move to WWE amid uncertain AEW future
Ricky Starks has been absent from AEW for over eight months now. Many fans have speculated that he may end up in WWE after his contract with AEW expires.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast, Starks finally broke his silence on whether he might jump ship to WWE after AEW's departure. He stated that he might land wherever he could be close to his friends.
“I could end up anywhere actually. It’s not crazy. I understand it, and definitely get it. Like, you know, you just go where your friends are. Yes, I love my friends. I would like to always see them every day in my life, whether they come to me or whatever the case may be. That’s just how it is in life. You have people that you are cool with, and you’re always gonna have people say, like, well, you’re gonna do that because of this person. It’s like, Well, damn, yeah, I can’t act on my own accord.”
Starks' last match in AEW was on the March 30 edition of Collision where he teamed up with with Big Bill to take on Top Flight (Dante and Darius Martin).
