American professional wrestler José García (FKA José the Assistant) is currently a free agent. However, he was once signed to AEW. In the Tony Khan-led promotion, he served as a manager for Andrade El Ídolo and La Facción Ingobernable. He joined AEW in 2021 and was released by the company earlier this year.

Ever since his release, García has appeared in several indie promotions and has participated in in-ring action. He changed his on-screen name to José The Assassin and recently made his debut in the Canadian indie wrestling company Alpha-1 Wrestling (founded by NXT Champion Ethan Page). Interestingly, he won the A1 Outer Limits Championship in his very first match.

Even though García's popularity in the indie circuit has risen in recent weeks, he seems to be tired of being called an indie wrestler. A few days ago, a wrestling fan watched the former AEW star's Alpha-1 Wrestling match and urged her followers on Twitter (X) to watch the same. The X user also called the A1 Outer Limits Champion her favorite "Indie wrestler!" However, García is seemingly not a big fan of this tag.

He quoted and retweeted the fan's post, and in his statement, José expressed his frustration at not being able to perform for a major wrestling company.

"How long until I get signed and stop being an Indy Wrestler? Sh******t!" he wrote.

When did José García get released from AEW?

On April 1, 2024, the Jacksonville-based promotion released several talents from their roster, including José García. The former AEW star confirmed his termination by changing his Twitter (X) handle name from José The Assistant to José The Unemployed.

Following his release, his former on-screen client Andrade El Idolo made a kind gesture on X. The current WWE Speed Champion called García his ''loyal friend,'' adding that he had a great time working with the latter.

It will be interesting to see if García returns to the Tony Khan-led promotion in the future.
