A major AEW star, released from WWE in 2021, recently addressed the possibility of a return to the Endeavor-owned company. The star in question is the current ROH Women's Champion Athena.

Athena (FKA Ember Moon) had a six-year tenure in the WWE, during which she won the NXT Women's Championship. The 35-year-old also held the Women's Tag Team Titles on the developmental brand alongside Shotzi Blackheart.

While Athena was successful in NXT, her main roster run was lackluster, as she failed to win any major titles in the Stamford-based promotion. After being released by WWE in 2021, the War Goddess signed with ROH under All Elite Wrestling and has been working in the Jacksonville-based company since then.

During the K & S WrestleFest virtual signing, Athena was asked about the possibility of her return to WWE. The ROH Women's World Champion replied that she was enjoying her current run in the AEW and ROH but did not deny the possibility of a return to her former employer.

"I don't know. I'll never say never. I'm enjoying my time with AEW and Ring Of Honor right now, but I'll never say never," Athena said. [H/T Wrestling Inc]

Athena remembered her time in WWE and said she made many friends while working with the promotion.

"I miss the people there, I made like a really big group of friends there between the crew and the staff and some girls and guys in the locker room. Like, I miss them, at the end of the day it's all pro wrestling," Athena added. [H/T Wrestling Inc]

Former WWE Superstar Athena calls out AEW champions

Speaking on the K & S WrestleFest virtual signing, Athena said she wanted to win more championships and is willing to target AEW World Champion Hikaru Shida and TBS Champion Kris Statlander.

The Shenom called them cowards and added she wanted to kick them in the face.

"They’re all cowards. I love Kris Statlander. I would love even more to kick her in the face. That would be beautiful. Hikaru Shida. I wrestled Shida a long time ago in SHIMMER, and I thoroughly enjoyed that match. I would love the opportunity to kick her in the face again. That would be beautiful," Athena said. During the appearance at the event, Athena also talked about her desire to perform on AEW's weekly shows and main event a pay-per-view.
