WWE Superstars jumping ship to other promotions is not a new trend, as during the 90s, many talents moved from WWE to WCW. A former WCW and current AEW commentator, Tony Schiavone, revealed that a major star from the Stamford-based promotion was expected to make a huge impact in WCW.

Tony Schiavone was the lead voice of WCW. Recently, he talked about the former Intercontinental Champion Curt 'Mr. Perfect' Hennig, who jumped ship to WCW in mid-1997 when he joined the nWo.

Speaking on the What Happened When podcast, the AEW veteran commentator spoke about the expectations the company had from Curt Hennig:

"There was a lot of chatter of how big a star he was and how he would be so good for this company," Schiavone said. "It was pretty much ... I don't know with the boys as much, but I think with ... people of us in the front office who followed wrestling, we were pretty excited about him coming over. He was a major star, we thought, and would really help us out a great deal. So we all thought that it be a big win for us." [H/T: WrestlingInc]

Tony Schiavone praises former WWE star Chris Hero

AEW veteran commentator Tony Schiavone recently had some kind words for the former WWE star Chris Hero.

Chris Hero signed with All Elite Wrestling this past June as a backstage producer. Tony Schiavone explained why getting The Knockout Artist to AEW is brilliant.

Speaking on the What Happened When podcast, Schiavone praised Hero for his knowledge and passion for the business:

"Afterwards, me and Chris Hero hung out for a couple of hours, just sitting down and having some coffee and talking about wrestling for two hours. I just love talking to him about it. Talking to him about not only the history, about what works as far as a wrestling ring, what works in the ring, what doesn’t work, what he has seen."

Schiavone further added:

"I’ve developed a very good relationship with Chris. Not only that, I’ve said it to him that he’s a hell of coach. He knows his wrestling, and he’s a very positive, good guy. Great hire by Tony Khan." [H/T: Inside The Ropes]
