Maxwell Jacob Friedman is gearing up to face a legendary luchador at AEW Grand Slam Mexico this Wednesday. Ahead of the upcoming television special, the latest addition to The Hurt Syndicate has shared a new moniker for himself on social media.
Earlier this month at Fyter Fest, MJF issued a challenge to Mistico for a singles match at Grand Slam Mexico on June 18. The Wolf of Wrestling warmed up for the blockbuster showdown last week at Summer Blockbuster by teaming with his stable-mates, AEW World Tag Team Champions Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley, to take on and defeat Mike Bailey, Kevin Knight, and Mascara Dorada in trios action.
As The Hurt Syndicate continued to punish their opponents after the bout, MJF sent a message to Mistico by ripping off Dorada's mask, a long-established wrestling trope meant to disrespect and humiliate the luchador who had been wearing the mask. After being subsequently blindsided and tapped out by the erstwhile Sin Cara, Friedman promised to do the same to the CMLL legend the following week.
Just a few hours earlier on Instagram, MJF shared photographs of his heinous actions from AEW Summer Blockbuster, and debuted a new nickname for himself as well.

"Mask collector," wrote MJF in the caption.

It remains to be seen if Friedman will resort to unmasking Mistico to beat him this coming Wednesday.
