AEW star MJF was officially confirmed as one of the cast members of the upcoming Netflix movie Happy Gilmore 2, starring Adam Sandler, sometime back. This would be his third Hollywood role, after significant parts in projects like Stranglehold (2024) and The Iron Claw (2023). Ahead of the release of his third movie, MJF made a Father’s Day post on X.
Surprising as it may sound, this post wasn’t dedicated to his father. Instead, it was an image of Adam Sandler standing as Happy Gilmore, wearing a Bruins jersey and holding a golf club in his hand, reinforcing the connection of the sequel to the original film. This was likely one of the shots from the movie being used as a promotional tease, and the caption read, “Happy Father’s Day, Dad.”
No further details regarding MJF’s role in the movie have been revealed yet. Some fans are speculating that this tweet could inadvertently mean that MJF is playing Adam Sandler’s son in the movie. MJF engaging with the film’s promotions certainly suggests that he has a significant enough role to warrant his involvement in the marketing of the movie.

MJF is currently part of a storyline where he has aligned himself with The Hurt Syndicate. On the June 11, 2025, episode of Dynamite, he teamed up with Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin to take down Jet Speed and Mascara Dorada. After winning the bout, MJF went on to unlace Dorada’s mask and humiliate him in front of the world. He will be facing Mistico in one-on-one action next at AEW Grand Slam Mexico.
MJF to bring back old persona at Mexico
As stated previously, MJF will take on Mistico in one-on-one action at AEW Grand Slam Mexico. Recently, he made a tweet that suggests he is bringing back his “American Hero” gimmick for the match in Mexico.
“Mistico….you’re gonna lose to an AMERICAN HERO!!!! That mask is MINE,” he wrote.
After winning the International Championship on the 250th edition of Dynamite, MJF renamed it the American Championship and called himself the “American Hero” for the rest of his championship reign.
It seems like the fans will get to see the gimmick back for one night only at AEW Grand Slam Mexico.
