The record fourth AEW World Championship reign of Jon Moxley is set to hit its 50th day now that he's retained at Full Gear. As a fighting champion, the leader of The Death Riders has plenty of potential challengers, but a certain star with a massive following is not interested. The fan-favorite has just explained why he's refusing a shot at the top title in the company.
The Purveyor of Violence headlined AEW's sixth annual Full Gear pay-per-view by retaining against Orange Cassidy. The 19-minute victory began with an Orange Punch during introductions, featured interference on both sides, and ended with a Death Rider for the pin. The Full Gear Zero Hour pre-show featured three matches, with "Big BOOM!" AJ Befumo of The Costco Guys defeating QT Marshall in the near-13-minute closer. AJ was accompanied by 11-year-old son Big Justice and 8-year-old friend The Rizzler, who was special guest timekeeper.
Tony Khan is a big fan of The Costco Guys. During the Full Gear post-show media scrum, the son of a billionaire told Befumo to please come back, making it clear that the door is open for some sort of working relationship. AJ reiterated how he loves it in AEW and has loved every minute of this program.
Befumo added that if welcomed back, he would be here and bring the boom to All Elite Wrestling. The Costco Guy was then asked if he had any interest in challenging Jon Moxley for the World Championship.
"I think I'm having a lot of fun where I am right now. I think I'm really loving everything that Big Justice and I have an opportunity to do. Again, we've talked about some of the creators we've been with... we've had an opportunity to meet Mr. Beast, we've had an opportunity to meet some of the biggest creators in the world, work with Costco, work with some of the greatest brands in the world, stay in contact with our audience. So, there's a lot we're doing right now," AJ said. [From 44:33 to 45:01]
AJ continued:
"So, I don't think a championship run is in my future. [laughs] [Khan laughs] I think that would take a lot of dedication that I'm not sure I have right now, but... you know what? To be here at AEW and wrestle multiple times throughout the year, and see where that goes, I think that that's kind of more the direction I'm leaning, but I'm getting a sad face [from Khan] over here, so...," AJ said. [From 45:02 to 45:21]
Khan said that he loves working with AJ and has enjoyed having him in AEW, seeing the former indie wrestler as a breath of positivity. Khan joked that AJ was undefeated in the company and declared that he definitely brought about the boom.
AEW set for final PPV of 2024
All Elite Wrestling is set to present the second annual Worlds End pay-per-view in 34 days. The big event is scheduled for Saturday, December 28, at Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, FL.
Worlds End 2024 will feature the finals of the second-ever Continental Classic Tournament. New AEW TNT Champion Daniel Garcia has been confirmed for the tournament, while Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada has also entered the competition, and his title will be on the line.
Officials were set to announce participants this afternoon, but the presentation has been delayed as of this writing. A report from Fightful Select noted that Kyle Fletcher, Will Ospreay, Ricochet, Shelton Benjamin, Darby Allin, and World Trios Champion Claudio Castagnoli are also rumored for the round-robin tournament.
The inaugural Worlds End in 2023 saw Eddie Kingston defeat Jon Moxley in the finals of the first-ever Continental Classic. This made Kingston the inaugural American Triple Crown Championship with the ROH World Championship, NJPW Strong Openweight Championship, and the AEW Continental Championship, introduced that night.
