Mariah May has officially gotten her new name and persona after her blockbuster move to WWE. Fans have reacted to this, with many AEW fans expressing their dislike towards this major change.
Last week, the former AEW Women's World Champion made her NXT debut, sending out a bold message to the women's division. Her arrival was similar to that of Ricky Saints; it was unannounced, abrupt, and immediately sent shockwaves through the wrestling world.
Earlier tonight, it was revealed that moving forward, Mariah May would now be known as Blake Monroe. This confirmed several reports, including one by PWInsider stating that WWE wished to do this so it could file a trademark and own the name.
Fans did not like the name, and they were vocal about it. One mentioned how the Mariah May name died in AEW. But many noticed how her gimmick in WWE was all too similar to 'Timeless' Toni Storm's, which was a Marilyn Monroe-esque character.
Some fans were not feeling her rebranding and how she might fall short of living up to expectations by being too similar to her former idol.

Natalya believes Mariah May's past work is the reason she's in WWE
During her recent appearance on Busted Open, Natalya spoke about the Glamour and her signing with WWE. She mentioned that they wouldn't have brought her in if not for her great work before this.
The 43-year-old mentioned how she enjoyed May's feud with Toni Storm in AEW and how their storyline was a favorite of hers. She then mentioned how, from now on, it was all about growth and a new challenge ahead.
“She has done amazing work in the past. I mean, she wouldn’t be in WWE had she not done great work prior. Her stuff with Toni [Storm] was some of my favorite stuff. It was just so fun. They had a fun story. But I think that it’s all about building, it’s all about growth, it’s all about [a] new challenge.” [H/T: Fightful]
Mariah May has some work to do now that she's a member of the NXT roster. She'll need to top herself, as she was part of one of the most acclaimed wrestling storylines in recent memory. But this is only the beginning of her WWE career, and there is no telling what heights she'll reach.
