Wrestling veteran Konnan is of the view that Tony Khan signing a 10-time WWE champion to AEW is a feasible possibility. The talent in question is Shelton Benjamin.
The Gold Standard was released by the Stamford-based promotion in September of last year. The former WWE Superstar has been working in the independent circuit since then, appearing in various promotions including Prestige Wrestling, PROGRESS Wrestling, and APC. However, fans have been speculating for some time on the prospect of Benjamin signing with AEW.
The conjecture gained intensity after a recent report claimed that Bobby Lashley and MVP, who are supposedly on their way out of the Stamford-based company, are looking to re-form their old stable, the Hurt Business, along with Benjamin in the Jacksonville-based promotion. As rumors continue to build regarding the former Intercontinental Champion's future, wrestling veteran Konnan has shared his two cents on the subject.
On a recent edition of his Keepin' It 100 OFFICIAL podcast, Konnan claimed that Shelton Benjamin could potentially sign a deal with AEW because he would be more than amply compensated by Tony Khan. He further suggested that the AEW President may want to bring in the 49-year-old veteran to impart his experience and wisdom to the locker room. Konnan also praised Benjamin and his accomplishments in the sport.
"Because Tony (Khan) overpays, and not only that, you need veterans to show all these indie guys how to work, bro. [Responding to a co-host claiming All Elite Wrestling talent will not listen to Benjamin] I think they would 'cause he's a shoot bada** and he's very likeable and he has credentials, you know," Konnan said. Shelton Benjamin recently confirmed he had talks with AEW
During a recent interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Shelton Benjamin revealed that he had engaged in conversations with All Elite Wrestling. The 49-year-old stated that the talks had not yet led to anything concrete, although he seemingly maintained his openness to a run in the Tony Khan-led promotion. He also spoke about his interest in working for TNA Wrestling and disclosed that Major League Wrestling (MLW) had reached out to him as well. He claimed he was waiting for a satisfactory deal.
"I had a brief conversation with AEW, that hasn't really borne fruit yet. But I'm still open. TNA I haven't spoken with yet. I'm more than willing to work with them. I haven't talked to them. I know MLW reached out. So you know, I've been presented with options. I just haven't found something that I'm satisfied with," Shelton Benjamin said. [H/T Wrestling Headlines]
It remains to be seen whether Shelton Benjamin opts to go All Elite in the imminent future.
