Wrestling veteran Jim Ross believes Bobby Lashley has overshadowed former WWE Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin in AEW. Lashley and Benjamin are members of The Hurt Syndicate alongside MVP.
The All Mighty made his AEW debut on Fright Night Dynamite, where he attacked Swerve Strickland, setting up a match for Full Gear. This past Saturday, at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Lashley defeated Strickland in his first one-on-one match.
On the latest edition of his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross said the Tony Khan-led creative team made a big mistake by booking Shelton Benjamin in a faction with Bobby Lashley. He added that Lashley's presence had eclipsed Benjamin's influence in AEW.
"They quickly make Shelton a secondary player which I think is a mistake. He's a star and a hell of an athlete. He can do things nobody else can and do it effortlessly. He's that good". [H/T: WrestlingInc.]
Tony Khan is okay with Bobby Lashley continuing his MMA career
Bobby Lashley picked up a win over Swerve Strickland in under 14 minutes at Full Gear. Following the pay-per-view, he attended the media scrum alongside Tony Khan.
At the media scrum, Khan was asked whether he would allow the former WWE star to continue his MMA career while under contract with AEW. He replied by saying that he had no problem with it.
"If he ever wants to do any fight, this guy can fight anybody on the planet. He would knock them out," the AEW President said.
The 48-year-old star has an MMA record of 15 wins and two losses. His last fight came against Josh Appelt at Bellator 162 on October 21, 2016. Lashley won the bout via a rear-naked choke submission in the second round.
