In the opening segment of AEW Fyter Fest, Will Ospreay expressed his regret about trying to act as a mediator between arch-rivals Adam Page and Swerve Strickland so that they could unite and fight against The Death Riders. He would then challenge Swerve Strickland to a bout at AEW Summer Blockbuster.
The match lived up to the expectations fans had after their last clash that took place at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, and it ended in a time-limit draw after 30 minutes of non-stop, high-stakes action. Swerve Strickland proposed a sudden-death overtime, but an interference from The Death Riders prevented that.
However, Will Ospreay did suffer an injury scare during the contest. In the starting moments of the bout, Swerve Strickland caught Will Ospreay with a stiff elbow strike, and he started bleeding profusely from his nose thereafter. Throughout the match, Ospreay was checking his nose, with blood staining his hands and wrist tape, though he continued to perform without losing a beat.
