Sting retired from in-ring competition last year. New details have come to light regarding his AEW return.
After a pretty successful run in AEW, The Icon retired as an active competitor at Revolution 2024. Following this, he remained off TV, but showed up later in the year to save Darby Allin from Jack Perry and The Young Bucks. The Icon was announced to make an appearance at Starrcast, which is set to take place during the week of AEW All In: Texas. This got fans wondering whether the wrestling legend would make an appearance at the show.
During a recent edition of Fightful Select's Weekly Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp was asked if Darby Allin would return before All In: Texas or during the show. He was also asked if The Icon would be at the show. Sapp responded that Allin would probably show up before All In. He also reported that the plan as of last year was to have The Icon appear at the show in some capacity, and it would be easy for him since he lives in Texas.
Vince Russo says Jeff Jarrett was affected by former AEW champion Sting's payment in TNA
The Icon and Jeff Jarrett worked together in TNA for several years. Sting was brought into the promotion by Dixie Carter, and he went on to win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship four times.
Speaking on a recent edition of Writing with Russo, Vince Russo used the example of The Icon and Jeff Jarrett to explain why wrestlers shouldn't book for each other.
"I remember vividly at TNA. You know Jeff in the spot he was in, you know Sting comes in, you know Jeff's booking now. Sting comes in. Dixie pays Sting more money than Jeff thought she should have paid him. And that affected Jeff's booking. So they are looking at it from a wrestler's point of view. Like I said, that conversation I had with Vince (McMahon), that's a promoter's point of view." [7:05 onwards]
It will be interesting to see if The Icon will show up at All In: Texas.
