The President and CEO of AEW, Tony Khan apparently made a huge mistake by booking a shocking title change at the recent Dynasty pay-per-view that a majority of fans did not want to see.
At the AEW Dynasty pay-per-view, Chris Jericho was set to challenge HOOK for the FTW Championship. The match was made official after the tensions between both the stars rose after teaming with each other. Even HOOK's father, Tazz was not able to establish peace and the match eventually took place at Dynasty tonight.
The title match was under FTW rules, so fans expected to witness some brutality. After multiple table and ringside spots, Jericho put down HOOK with two back-to-back 'Judas Effects' and a hit to the face with a baseball bat for the shocking three count and became the new FTW Champion, thus ending HOOK's 8-month reign.
Well, this could be seen as a huge mistake by the AEW President, Tony Khan, in terms of booking. HOOK was organically getting over with the fans at such a young age and the loss against Jericho, who is in his 50s, could hurt his momentum. Moreover, the 24-year-old star can easily lose direction after this loss if the' character's booking was not carefully done on dealing with the fallout of the loss.
Tony Khan should book Chris Jericho to put over young talent
Most fans feel that while there is no denying that Chris Jericho is a legend of the business, he is now in his 50s and not in need of any title win. Instead, many suggest he should be putting over younger talents to give back to the business.
Other than HOOK, The Ocho also defeated young talents like Konosuke Takeshita and Sammy Guevara in the past, which had resulted in fan backlash against the star and his booking. In case Jericho still wishes to still wrestle, Tony Khan should book him wisely after the AEW Dynasty pay-per-view.
Fans are completely against Chris Jericho
It is well known that Chris Jericho receives a lot of backlash from the fans on the internet for different reasons. Furthermore, fans in attendance at AEW Dynasty in St. Loius were also not behind Jericho at all. Throughout his match against HOOK, fans chanted, "Go home Jericho" and "Fozzy sucks."
Moreover, the fans erupted with loud boos when The Ocho pinned HOOK to win the FTW Title. This could be a clear indication that fans don't want to see Jericho take away some youngster's spotlight anymore.
What's next for Chris Jericho?
Jericho's run in AEW had impressed people in the beginning but over time, has been one of the more bigger criticisms of the star. Usually, The Ocho takes a break when his on-screen persona turns stale and returns with a fresh look and feel, which captivated that star to his fans. In AEW however, the star hasn't taken many breaks and his character evolution seems to be, in many ways, happening without making much sense. From outstanding feuds with MJF, to the audience now chanting "Please retire," it's been quite a fall from grace for the inaugral AEW World Champion.
