Born in Iwate Prefecture, Japan the writer got interested in creating manga at a very young age. It was claimed that he was inspired by Tite Kubo's work in Bleach. It was also revealed that Gege was impressed with manga like Hunter × Hunter and Neon Genesis Evangelion, which ignited his fire to write alongside Yasuhiro Kanō as an assistant in Kiss x Death during his early years.

Gege Akutami has released multiple projects from the time he entered the zone of a manga writer. He has worked on projects like Kamishiro Sousa which was a One-shot published in Shueisha's Shōnen Jump Next! during 2014. Later he worked on No.9 in 2015 and was also released in weekly Shōnen Jump. Later in 2016 he worked on a manga called Nikai Bongai Barabarujura which was released in One-shot published in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump.

After that it was in 2017 when Gege Akutami released his manga Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School which was published and serialized in Shueisha's Jump GIGA platform. After its success, Gege started his most successful manga series called Jujutsu Kaisen. The writer aired his first chapter in 2018 and has been working on the story till date. Being one of the most popular stories of all time, Jujutsu Kaisen was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump.
