Role of Master Tengen in Jujutsu Kaisen

Master Tengen has one of the most important roles in the jujutsu world because of him, and the human world was away from the cursed spirits who look to swallow people and kill them to feed themselves.

Tengen was the one who was able to keep Jujutsu High a secret place from the outer world due to his barrier technique that helped the school teach the new Jujutsu sorcerers about the cursed energy and how to deal with the cursed spirit.

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 220 Kenjaku, it was seen that Kenjaku and Tengen talked about why Tengen did not deactivate the four barriers and stop the culling game because he thinks Yuji and other Jujutsu Socecers will win against Kenjaku. After the conversation, Kenjaku found Tengen's real body and took it with him.

Master Tengen’s Abilities

Tengen's primary abilities lie in barrier techniques, making them the most potent barrier user among Jujutsu sorcerers. These barriers, including Concealing Barriers, Empty Barriers, and Pure Barriers, contribute to cursed spirit suppression and overall protection in the Jujutsu world.

Notably, Tengen's Pure Barriers, located at key sites like the Imperial Palace and the Tombs of the Star, are essential to maintaining balance in the Jujutsu realm.

While Tengen is a non-combatant, their strategic intellect shines through, providing valuable insights and tactics to sorcerers in battles against formidable foes like Kenjaku. Tengen's wisdom and vast knowledge make them key figures in planning operations, such as the rescue mission for Tsumiki and the strategy against the Culling Game.

It's important to note Tengen's unique Innate Technique, Immortality, which grants them eternal life but requires a reset every five hundred years. Tengen's self-awareness persists, even as they become more of a cursed spirit than a human.
