Yakuza Fiancé episode 8 aired on November 25, 2024, and continued to plot line with Kento Ozu as the antagonist. Although the episode mainly revolved around Yoshino and Kirishima maneuvering around Kento's plan, the episode also introduced Azami, who is seemingly manipulating the entire situation through Kento Ozu.

The episode continued the trend of irregular pacing and adapted only a single chapter in episode 8. Although many fans expected episode 8 to be mainly centered around action and conflict, the pacing has currently shifted those moments to episode 9.

Yakuza Fiancé episode 8 started with Kento Ozu discussing his plans with his associates while Yoshino continued her surveillance. Kento expressed disdain for the goons who had sought his assistance and made it clear that he would be issuing the orders for their current operation against Kirishima and Yoshino.

Yoshino and Kirishima resumed their conversation from earlier episodes, with Kirishima urging Yoshino to retreat from Kento's vicinity. However, Yoshino grew more intrigued upon learning that Kirishima was actively preventing her identity from being exposed to other yakuza groups. Their conversation ended with Yoshino insisting that Kirishima follow her plan, prompting Kirishima to leave abruptly with Nao.

The episode then shifted to Kento Ozu meeting Azami and briefing him about the situation. Azami left without saying a word. Meanwhile, Yoshino made contact with Kento and engaged him in conversation, taking advantage of the fact that Kento did not know what she looked like.

Elsewhere, Kirishima contacted Shouma, instructing him to head to a safe house where he had supposedly hidden Yoshino to keep her away from Kento Ozu. Upon arrival, Shouma found Nao instead and quickly adapted to Kirishima’s plan. As Shouma was leaving, he encountered a red-haired goon associated with Kento and engaged him in a fight after insulting his perm.

The episode returned to Yoshino and Kento, where Yoshino consumed expensive drinks on Kento's tab. Kento escaped, much to Yoshino’s frustration, who later learned that Kirishima had involved Shouma in the plan to keep the goons away from her.

Kirishima then revealed personal details, including his birthdate, and proposed marriage to Yoshino once he turned 18. Yoshino rejected the idea, leading to a compromise: if Kirishima could defeat her in a game after resolving the situation with Kento Ozu, she would agree to become his girlfriend.

Yakuza Fiancé episode 8 continued the plot lines from episode 7 and adapted a coherent narrative for the first time since episode 1. The previous episodes focused primarily on the individual characterizations of Yoshino, Kirishima, and Shouma, along with their mutual conflicts. However, episode 8 succeeded in merging these elements into a situation with meaningful stakes and rewards.

The animation quality remains subpar but is mitigated by the story's heavy reliance on character dialogue rather than complex animated sequences. While the rough animation quality is not immediately noticeable, the frequent animation loops, particularly during Shouma's fight with the goons, highlight the shortcomings in any sequence not centered on dialogue.

Although Studio Deen has previously delivered notable fight scenes in their adaptation of Seven Deadly Sins, the quality of the upcoming fight between Kirishima and the goons could mark a significant drop in the anime’s overall production value.

The sound design and soundtrack remain unremarkable, with the outdated sound effects during Shouma's brawl serving as a prime example of a lackluster sound library. Despite these technical drawbacks, the episode’s strength lies in the progression of the plot and the evolving dynamic between Yoshino and Kirishima. Their growing competitiveness and the way their interactions feed off each other’s energy add depth and serve as a key highlight of the episode.

Final thoughts

Yakuza Fiancé episode 9 is set to release on December 2, 2024, as part of Crunchyroll's Fall 2024 lineup. The episode will focus on Kirishima's wager with Yoshino and the strategies he employs to secure victory. Episode 8 faithfully adapted chapter 17 of the manga in its entirety, so fans eager to continue the story can start reading from chapter 18.
