You may think I'm crazy but Kaiju No. 8 manga could get a Tokyo Ghoul treatment

Kaiju No. 8 is officially ending in two chapters. However, the story doesn't really feel concluded. With so many unanswered questions and new materials introduced, the plot is feeling less like an ending and more like a stepping stone to the next phase.

That's why some fans, including myself, are starting to suspect that we might be heading down the Tokyo Ghoul path. This means ending the current Kaiju No. 8 manga and then launching a direct sequel with a fresh direction.

Why Kaiju No. 8 manga could get a Tokyo Ghoul treatment, explained

Kaiju No. 8's conclusion is only two chapters away, but for most fans, the timing and pacing are off. The last few chapters of the manga haven't provided many resolutions—instead, they've left more questions than answers. Rather than working toward a conclusive finale, the manga has been introducing new elements, new character developments, and new future conflicts.

This is the reason why readers have begun to suspect that the manga isn't truly ending. Instead, it might be taking the same route Tokyo Ghoul took years ago, completing the first manga only to come back later with a direct sequel.

The analogy to Tokyo Ghoul is not a coincidence. That show seemed to end with a dark but thematically appropriate finale. Readers tolerated the sad ending since it was in line with the tone of the story. Weeks after, though, a chapter epilogue was released with the last volume of the series, which showed that the story wasn't over yet.

Tokyo Ghoul:re resumed from where the first series ended and opened its world further while remaining true to Kaneki in a different setting. At the time, this was a surprise, but it was obvious in retrospect that the manga was setting all this up all along.

Kaiju No. 8 is doing the same. Several recent chapters have not effectively tied up what has already been established. Rather, they've been adding new things—whether it's unknown aspects of the kaiju threat, hints regarding Kikoru's future, or enigmatic characters and systems not fully explained. The pacing feels transitional. It's the sort of build that doesn't imply a conclusive finish but rather a restart, a turn, or a time jump that might transition into a sequel.

This move also works from a publishing standpoint. Rather than stretching a manga past its natural course and potentially losing quality, the creators can wrap up one half of the story and begin anew with a sequel series. It allows them to change things while retaining the fanbase and momentum.

In the case of Kaiju No. 8, its popularity—both in manga sales and anime hype—means that a sequel isn't just possible, it's inevitable. The franchise continues to expand, and a sudden ending will feel premature unless the intention is to return with a rebranded continuation.

Additionally, several fans have also noted the strategic parallels in the rollout. Tokyo Ghoul didn't publicize its sequel until its final volume had been released with the epilogue. The same may be the case here. Unless the final chapter includes a major twist, the real clue might come weeks later in an extra chapter or bonus content. Until that volume lands in readers’ hands, it’s wise to be cautious about assuming Kaiju No. 8 is truly finished. For now, all signs point toward this being the end of Part 1, not the full story.

Final thoughts

On paper, Kaiju No. 8 may be ending, but the story certainly doesn't feel finished. There are many threads left to untangle and many pieces of lore left unexplored, so this fantastic arc reads more like a set-up than the conclusion.

Much like Tokyo Ghoul before it, the manga is finding an ending here only to return in another form for a sequel series continuation of the story. Whether this is clear to readers in the final chapter or later in an epilogue, readers should keep in mind that Kaiju No. 8 might only be finishing up its first half.
