The Olympic bronze medallist has been out of form for most of 2019. After winning the Indonesia Masters 2019 in January, the Indian shuttler has not managed to reach the finals of any tournament.

In the last tournament (Hong Kong Open) Saina played in November, she faced a first-round defeat from China's Cai Yan Yan 13-21, 20-22. She had faced a similar result in four tournaments before the Hong Kong Open 2019.

Saina is a part of the North Eastern Warriors in the Premier Badminton League and has also played for Hyderabad Hotshots, who were the champions of the first season of Premier Badminton League.

The Premier Badminton League Season 5 is all set to begin from 20th January 2020, with the auctions to be held on 26th November in Delhi. The Srikanth Kidambi-led Bengaluru Raptors were the champions of the previous season, while Mumbai Rockets finished as the runners-up.
