Former world No.1 badminton player Saina Nehwal today announced that she will not be a part of the upcoming season of the Premier Badminton League. Nehwal said in a Twitter post that she has been unwell due to pancreatitis and injuries, and would like to take the time to get better.

Notably, she had also pulled out of the Korea Masters earlier this week.

Here's what she tweeted -

The Olympic bronze medallist has been out of form for most of 2019. After winning the Indonesia Masters 2019 in January, the Indian shuttler has not managed to reach the finals of any tournament.

In the last tournament (Hong Kong Open) Saina played in November, she faced a first-round defeat from China's Cai Yan Yan 13-21, 20-22. She had faced a similar result in four tournaments before the Hong Kong Open 2019.

Saina is a part of the North Eastern Warriors in the Premier Badminton League and has also played for Hyderabad Hotshots, who were the champions of the first season of Premier Badminton League.

The Premier Badminton League Season 5 is all set to begin from 20th January 2020, with the auctions to be held on 26th November in Delhi. The Srikanth Kidambi-led Bengaluru Raptors were the champions of the previous season, while Mumbai Rockets finished as the runners-up.
