Atlanta Braves legend Chipper Jones once set out to reconcile with his ex-wife after fathering a child out of wedlock

In October 1998, Atlanta Braves legend and Hall of Famer Chipper Jones shocked the MLB world. It was revealed that he had an 18-month-old extra-marital affair with a Hooters waitress which led him to father a child out of wedlock.

Back then, Jones was married to Karin Fulford. The pair met when Jones was playing with the Atlanta Braves' Class A affiliate in Georgia. They later tied the knot in 1992.

Despite his infidelity and all the media circus, Chipper's first wife, Karin, mattered to him the most. Thus, the former third baseman set out to mend his broken conjugal bonds.

"Basically, I had to make a decision on what the most important thing in my life was. The most important thing was Karin. So, in order to keep Karin around, I had to make changes," Jones said, talking about retaining the marriage with his first wife.

However, things didn't work out between them and the duo got divorced in 2000.

20 years later, Chipper Jones' ex-wife Karin Fulford, opened up in an exclusive AJC interview.

Karin mentioned that her life as a baseball star's wife was dreamy in the initial years. However, by 1997, things started deteriorating badly. However, she still chose to put on a happy face.

In 1998, Karin was horrified when she discovered that Jones had been unfaithful to her and that another woman was carrying his child. To make things worse, she and Jones had not conceived themselves.

“I went to a place of deep grief, totally lost who I was and silenced my own pain. I just wanted to hold my marriage together, and I had to let go of my own intuition to do that," shared Karin.
