Buster Posey Announces Retirement
Buster Posey Announces Retirement in 2021

Buster Posey is certainly one of the most famous San Francisco Giants players in history, and with good reason. Any player who wins a Rookie of the Year Award, an MVP Award and three World Series rings is bound to have a special place in the hearts of the fans.

Especially if that organization, as in Posey's case, was the only team that the player in question ever played for. He is now giving back to the Giants in a new off-field role.

In late 2022, it was announced that Posey would be joining the group that owns and operates the San Francisco Giants. The 30-member board now includes Posey, who will have direct input on executive decisions concerning the direction and management of the franchise.

The Giants are currently owned by Charles B. Johnson, with Larry Baer serving as the team's president. In his new role, Posey will also liase with newly named General Manager, Pete Putila.

Posey's first full season with the Giants came in 2010. That year, the catcher from Georgia hit .305 with 18 home runs and 67 RBIs. Two years later, he won the MVP Award after registering a league-best batting average of .336.

Although Buster Posey was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels out of his Florida State University, the San Francisco Giants were the only team that he ever played for.

Posey won the World Series with the Giants in 2010, 2012 and 2014. Apart from his stellar hitting, Posey called some brilliant games, catching some of the best pitchers of the generation like Tim Lincecum and Madison Bumgarner.

Following the 2021 season, Posey announced that he would be retiring after 12 seasons with the San Francisco Giants. On the eve of his retirement, Posey had 158 home runs, 729 RBIs and a career average of .302 to his name.

Buster Posey's appointment tells us all we need to know

It's one thing to be one of the best players in the modern history of the team, it is quite another for the ownership aparatus of the said team to want you on the board. For Buster Posey, who was eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2026, this certainly helps his case.
