It has not been the career that many expected from Eloy Jimenez when he burst onto the scene with the Chicago White Sox in 2019. After crushing 31 home runs as a rookie and looking like a potential superstar in the making, injuries and lack of consistency have plagued Jimenez throughout most of his career.
Although he has struggled with his health, when he is ready to go, he has shown flashes of the elite potential many believed he had entering the MLB. At only 28 years old, Jimenez still has time to right the ship and produce an All-Star season if he can remain healthy.
It seems likely that the slugging outfielder will need to settle for a one-year deal in free agency. Since he could be considered a low-risk, high-reward signing at this stage of his career, he should find plenty of suitors willing to gamble on his ceiling.
Here's a look at 3 potential landing spots for Eloy Jimenez in free agency
#1 - Boston Red Sox
It's going to be an interesting offseason for the Boston Red Sox as they look to return to playoff contention. The club has been heavily linked to elite free agents such as Juan Soto; however, if they miss out on the superstar, Jimenez could be viewed as a low-cost addition to the lineup.
While he is nowhere close to the player that Soto is, he will also cost nowhere what it would take for the Red Sox to land the former New York Yankees outfielder. If the Red Sox were to bring him in, they could also look to use him in more of a platoon role, which could open the door for more free agent signings.
#2 - Toronto Blue Jays
Another club linked to Soto that could miss out on his services is the Toronto Blue Jays. The Canadian team disappointed across the board last season and will be looking to add to their current core. Toronto won't need to use him in the outfield, which could help him stay on the field. A cheap "prove it" deal could work out for both parties.
#3 - Detroit Tigers
One more club looking to add some offensive firepower is the Detroit Tigers. Despite reaching the American League Division Series, the Tigers struggled to do much on offense, relying more on their elite pitching staff. Bringing in a player with the upside of Eloy Jimenez at an affordable rate could be an intriguing move for the upstart Tigers.
