Has Mike Trout been to the playoffs? Examining the Angels superstar's post season legacy?

Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout continues to shine for the club

Since debuting in 2012, Mike Trout has been on a clear path to the title of "Greatest of All-Time". In his first full season in the majors, Trout put the MLB on notice, hitting 30 home runs and 86 RBIs, while also stealing a career-high 49 stolen bases.

Now 12 seasons into his MLB career, Trout has arguably been the best player in the league every season. In 1,407 MLB games, the outfielder has hit 350 home runs, 896 RBIs and 1,543 hits. He has also stolen 204 bases while maintaining a career .303 batting average in 6,159 plate appearances.

That being said, upon reflecting on Trout's career, one glaring hole in his resume has been the lack of experience in the postseason. Throughout his 12-year career, MLB fans have only been able to witness Trout play in three postseason games. These games came in 2014 against the Kansas City Royals. Since then, the Los Angeles Angels have struggled to field a team worthy of his talent.

Trout was 22 years old during the only postseason series of his career, however, the only hit he had in the playoffs was a home run. The fact that one of the greatest players in MLB history has only played in three playoff games has been one of the biggest failures in modern baseball history.

Trout has already established himself as the greatest player of his generation. However, his lack of postseason success will undoubtedly hurt his bid to be named the greatest baseball of all time.

A look at Mike Trout's 2022 season

Last season with the Los Angeles Angels, Trout proved yet again why he has a legitimate claim for the "Greatest of All Time" crown. The veteran superstar hit 40 home runs with 80 RBIs in 119 games.

"I will never not be a fan of this guy. I don’t think it’s possible to TRULY love the game of baseball and also dislike Mike Trout. It still amazes me how he had the quietest 40 HR season of all time in 2022." - Bonda

While he is no longer a stolen-base threat, he is still an on-base machine, hitting .283 with a .999 OPS last season. He finished eighth in the American League MVP voting, with New York Yankees star Aaron Judge ultimately winning the award.
