Mark Vientos: Where does Mets' prospect's 469 m dinger rank among the longest homers in MLB?

Mark Vientos, one of the New York Mets' top prospects, obliterated a baseball during Spring Training. The Mets' eighth-ranked prospect has been trying to find a defensive position, playing corner infield and outfield spots. What he doesn't need to find is his swing, evidently.

He has crushed the ball all spring training, but nowhere has that been more evident than his 469 foot blast.

The Mets have to be impressed with Vientos. He's hitting the ball as well as anyone and arguably as far as anyone. A 469 foot bomb would be one of the longest of the MLB regular season.

How does it compare to the furthest balls hit? Here's where Mark Vientos ranks.

Mark Vientos' 469 foot home run, ranked

There are some mammoth home runs that don't have exact distances because Statcast didn't start tracking home run distances until 2015. That makes those baseball distances a bit unofficial, but here's the official leaderboard:

  1. Nomar Mazara: 505 feet, June 21, 2019, vs. White Sox
  2. C.J. Cron: 504 feet, Sept. 9, 2022, vs. Diamondbacks
  3. Giancarlo Stanton: 504 feet, Aug. 6, 2016, vs. Rockies
  4. Christian Yelich: 499 feet, Sept. 6, 2022 vs. Rockies
  5. Jesus Sanchez: 496 feet, May 30, 2022 vs. Rockies
  6. Miguel Sanó: 496 feet, Sept. 17, 2019, vs. White Sox
  7. Aaron Judge: 496 feet, Sept. 30, 2017, vs. Blue Jays
  8. Ronald Acuña Jr.: 495 feet, Sept. 25, 2020, vs. Red Sox
  9. Joey Gallo: 495 feet, July 20, 2018, vs. Guardians
  10. Aaron Judge: 495 feet, June 11, 2017, vs. Orioles
  11. Miguel Sanó: 495 feet, Aug. 25, 2021, vs. Red Sox
  12. Ryan McMahon: 495 feet, Aug. 9, 2022, vs. Cardinals

So, while Mark Vientos' blast wouldn't rank among the all-time farthest hit home runs, it would easily make a leaderboard for a given season. Ordinarily, there are not many home runs that exceed 470 feet in distance.

Vientos, who is charging for a spot on the Mets' major league roster, could end up on the 2023 leaderboard if he can get some playing time at the major league level.

If he does, look out, baseballs. They'll be landing very far from home.
