Predicting the Top 5 Home Run leaders in 2023 MLB season

Los Angeles Angels v Oakland Athletics
Shohei Ohtani hits a lot of home runs

Home runs were down a bit in 2023 for MLB, but there were still plenty of players mashing a ton of them. Aaron Judge knocked in 62 and broke records, so there are still plenty of imposing threats in the batter's box.

Looking ahead, will anyone do what Judge did next year? Probably not, but there will still be a few hitters who smash a ton of balls out of the park. Here are the expected top five for 2023.

MLB's biggest home run hitters for 2023

5) Matt Olson

The Atlanta Braves first baseman had an excellent season last year in his first with the team. He knocked in 34 home runs, so there's no reason to expect at least that for 2023. Fangraphs' projections conservatively expect 36 home runs from him next season, but 40 is a number this MLB All-Star can reach next year. Either way, he'll likely be one of the league leaders.

4) Shohei Ohtani

Shohei Ohtani was a revelation last season, putting up insane numbers on the mound and in the batter's box. It wasn't a career year from the plate with 34 home runs and he hit 36 in 2021.

Obviously, he's got the power stroke capable of leading the league in home runs, so it would be foolish to count him out. The projections expect 36 from the Cy Young candidate, so he could easily be one of the league's biggest home run hitters in 2023.

3) Kyle Schwarber

Kyle Schwarber didn't lead MLB in home runs last season, but he did lead the National League. He swatted an incredible 36 home runs. If not for Aaron Judge, he would have easily led the league. The projections expect 38 from the Philadelphia Phillies' slugger, so he will be right there with the rest of the hitters when the season ends.

2) Yordan Alvarez

Yordan Alvarez is one of the most imposing hitters in the MLB. He was second in the American League with 37 home runs in 2022 and that was in just 135 games. The projections expect 40 bombs from Alvarez, a feat he could have easily done last year.

1) Aaron Judge

Aaron Judge hit 62 home runs

Aaron Judge hit a record number of home runs last season. He likely won't do that again, but he will hit a ton of home runs. The projections say he'll hit 46, which is very attainable for him. He's topped 50 twice in six seasons, so there's no reason to think he can't get well over 40 in 2023.
