MLB's new rules aimed at speeding up the game made their regular-season debut, and many fans are less than thrilled with the changes. The average length of games was reduced by about 18 minutes, which is in line with what the league was hoping for. There was also an increase in steals made in each game on average. There were also, of course, the first examples of pitch clock violations.

The general consensus has been that these violations will dwindle as the season continues and players get used to the rules. For some fans, however, these changes are not worth the results. Having the batters count changed by their preparedness rather than a pitch certainly feels strange.

Talkin' Baseball on Twitter shared a summary of the major changes to Opening Day on Twitter.

MLB is not a league that is used to change, so this season is a huge adjustment from the norm. Part of the beauty of baseball is all the history the game has, which is now being affected. The game is fundamentally not the same as it was last season, which was essentially the way it had always been played. Some consider this a step backwards instead of the progress it was intended to be.

MLB has made a concerted effort in recent years to grow the game. They have done an excellent job of turning superstars like Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto into household names. However, they clearly wanted to make the game more accessible for new fans. In the process, it seems they have turned off some of their passionate and dedicated fans.

The league certainly wants to find a balance between maintaining the integrity of the game and making it more entertaining. As the hardcore fanbase gets used to these rules, their stance will likely soften on the changes. Until then, they won't hesitate to make their voices heard.

Major League Baseball is taking a big risk with all the rule changes so far, but they seem to be having the desired effect.

For many years, baseball has been on the decline in terms of popularity in the United States. What was once 'America's pastime' has fallen by the wayside as NFL and NBA surpassed them.

MLB is now introducing new rules and building more and more superstars to put baseball back on top.
