Shohei Ohtani excellence as a two-way player seems to have no bounds as the Japanese sensation notched up another historic feat in his start against the Minnesota Twins. Ohtani struck out nine batters in six innings as he became the second player in Angels history to record 80 Ks in first ten starts of the season.

The first player to do so was Nolan Ryan who achieved 97 strikeouts in his first ten starts in 1978. Ryan was a Halos legend and it's quite fitting that his greatness is matched by none other than Shohei Ohtani himself. The 28-year-old is currently third on the list of most strikeouts this season just behind Spencer Strider and Kevin Gausman.

Shohei Ohtani's performance marks a return back to the form he showed at the start of the season. Even though he didn't get a decision against his name despite earning just one run, the Angels are currently eight and two in his starts for the team. Even with the bat, Ohtani got one hit and a walk from his four times at the box.

Fans took to Twitter to voice their appreciation for their hero.

Shohei Ohtani satisfied with season high whiffs against the Twins

Ohtani pitched 99 times during the game and to his credit 62 of them were strikes. Out of these 22 of them were whiffs as batters tried to hit off the starter but failed.

“Getting the swings and misses are huge and better than having them fouled off. So I’m making my pitches and that's a good sign,” Ohtani said through an interpreter.

The Angels improved to a 25-23 third best record in the AL West. The Twins still lead the AL Central with a 25-22 record. Both teams have recorded five wins and five losses in their last ten games.
