Fans reacted as Austin Wells and the New York Yankees achieved yet another victory in the 2024 postseason. They won their American League Championship series 4-1 against the Cleveland Guardians following a breathtaking 5-2 series finale victory on Sunday.

The Bronx Bombers lost just one game in the series, a 7-5 defeat on Thursday, but won all other games to close out the best-of-seven series in just five outings. However, despite the team’s success, the struggles of catcher Austin Wells at the plate continued.

This postseason, Wells has recorded three hits in 33 at-bats, scoring one run, with three RBIs, three walks and 15 strikeouts. Several Yankees fans reacted on X to the catcher’s slumping stats:

Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer in the sixth, tying the scores. The two teams remained tied until the ninth inning, eventually entering extra innings. The Yankees' Juan Soto hit a 402-foot homer bringing in three runs to secure victory for his team.

The New York Yankees demoted Austin Wells to eighth spot in the lineup before Friday’s Game 4 of the ALCS. The game ended with an 8-6 victory for the Yankees, where Wells hit a 407-foot solo homer.

Discussing his postseason performance, Wells said (via NY Post):

“I definitely have not felt like myself in the last month. But (Thursday) night, I felt I made a big adjustment after the game and noticed some things from when I was going good.
“It doesn’t matter where I am in the lineup,” Wells added. “I just want to be in the lineup.”

Since entering the 2024 postseason, Wells has batted .091, with an on-base percentage of .167 and a slugging percentage of .182. The New York Yankees have made it to the World Series for the first time in 15 years.

They face the New York Mets or the Los Angeles Dodgers, depending on who wins the National League Championship Series.
