On Tuesday, sportscaster Dan Patrick and former big leaguer Joey Votto talked about the upcoming New York Yankeess vs LA Dodgers World Series showdown. The series is set to begin on Friday, October 25.
In October 22's edition of the 'Dan Patrick Show', Votto talked about the outstanding talent on show in the World Series.
"We've got four of the best, probably six players. Probably four of the best fifty, maybe 75 players players in the history of the game in the World Series right now." Votto said [9:48]
"We've got four megastars, in Mookie (Betts), Aaron (Judge), Juan Soto and the ace of spades, the king, the big dog Shohei Ohtani... The Yankees happen to have probably the best left-handed hitter not named Shohei Ohtani in the game (Juan Soto)." Votto added
Votto himself was quite an accomplished left-handed batter. Spending all of his 17 years in the major leagues with the Cincinnati Reds, the Toronto native earned six All-Star caps, won an NL MVP award, a Hank Aaron award and a Gold Glove. For his career, Votto had a .294 batting average, with 356 home runs and 1144 RBIs.
Juan Soto's three-run homer in extra innings takes the Yankees to the World Series
The New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Guardians 5-2 in game five of the ALCS at Progressive Field on Saturday. With the win, the Yankees win the championship series 4-1 and clinched a World Series berth for the first time in 15 years.
Superstar Juan Soto played a key role in his team's victory, as he hit a three-run homer in the top of the 10th inning to take the game beyond the hosts. Following up an excellent regular season, Soto has had a fantastic postseason, hitting .333, with three home runs and eight RBIs in the playoffs. In only his first season with the Yankes, Soto already has a legendary playoff moment.
Apart from Soto, Giancarlo Stanton has been arguably the Yankees best performer in the playoffs, with five home runs and 11 RBIs in the postseason, repeatedly turning up when his team needed a big hit the most. Fans will be hoping their star-studded team can continue on the upward trajectory they've been on off late, and bring the World Series trophy back to the Bronx for the first time since 2009.
