The Los Angeles Dodgers, coming off a World Series win, will need to adjust their coaching staff heading into the 2025 season. Dodgers' first base coach Clayton McCullough is leaving the Dodgers to begin his major league managerial career.
According to ESPN, the Miami Marlins recently hired McCullough as their new manager. The 44-year-old replaced former Marlins manager Skip Schumaker, who left the team at the end of the 2024 season.
McCullough has served as the Dodgers' first base coach for the past four seasons. Before that, he was the team's minor league field coordinator for six years. Several fans reacted to the news and shared their views on X (formerly Twitter):
“Going from most expensive org to the cheapest good luck to him as a marlins fan,” a fan said.
“That’s actually a big loss for the dodgers,” another fan said.
“Congratulations to Clayton McCullough. Will miss him and his contributions towards Ohtani’s stolen bases,” another fan wrote.
Many other fan reactions continued, with many lauding the Marlins' move:
“That’s gonna be the biggest move for them this offseason,” a comment reads.
“Good hire by the Marlins won’t lie,” another comment reads.
“Wish him much success, can’t wait to see what kind of season he can put together in Miami,” someone wrote.
Although Clayton McCullough hasn’t managed a team in the majors, he does have experience managing in the minor leagues. McCullough was a manager in the Toronto Blue Jays minor league system from 2006 to 2014.
Miami Marlins hopes a fresh start with Clayton McCullough following a tough 2024 season
Clayton McCullough built a solid 402-357 record during his time managing the minor league teams. The Miami Marlins are coming off a rough season under manager Skip Schumaker's leadership.
In Schumaker's first year with the Marlins in 2023, the club ended the season with a strong 84-78 record. They also made it to the playoffs that year, marking their second postseason appearance since their 2003 World Series win.
Schumaker ended his two-year stint as the Marlins manager with a 146-178 record. In November, the Texas Rangers hired him as a senior advisor to their president of baseball operations. Now under Clayton McCullough's leadership, the Miami Marlins hopes to bounce back in the upcoming 2025 season.
