San Francisco Giants starter Blake Snell has been drawing a lot of attention before the MLB trade deadline. The Giants have an abundance of starting pitchers, so it seems they could be open to selling one of their best pitchers, attracting many teams to make a deal.

Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported that the Giants are in discussion for Snell's trade with five teams in the major league. The Giants are interested in listening to all the offers that are about to end after the 2024 season. Heyman also expressed his over-the-trade price for Snell.

"Five teams said to have some level of interest in Blake Snell, who’s looking better and historically a second-half pitcher. The $30M 2025 player option, though, makes it tricky. Giants listening on select players, mainly guys with expiring contracts," Heyman wrote.

Snell has missed three starts due to injury, but after his return on July 9, he saw a significant upturn in form.

He was thrown back into the time when he became the Cy Young Award winner. In 18 combined pitches, Snell allowed two runs and six hits only, gaining traction before a potential midseason trade.

Five potential landing spots for Blake Snell

1) Houston Astros

The Houston Astros drastically need a starting pitcher, and Blake Snell seems to be an ideal trade.

The team might not be able to afford the luxury tax, but they might have another way to convince the Giants of this trade. The Giants need a center fielder after Jung Hoo Lee got injured, and the Astros could give them Mauricio Dubon.

2) St. Louis Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals are having a very similar season as the San Francisco Giants. So, they're not going well for the prospect of making it to the World Series with a 47-55 record.

However, the Giants might be looking forward to snatching some players from the Cardinals in exchange for Blake Snell. So much so that Grant Brisbee of The Athletic, has deemed it a "funny" situation if the Cardinals end up doing it.

3) Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins need a starting pitcher, and it's quite an important task to get one soon, as per Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic.

The Twins are known to make surprising moves now and then. However, the $30 million payroll might be of concern for the Twins, so it makes it difficult for them to make a trade for Snell.

4) Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves didn't have any need to make the trade before the deadline, but the high injuries on the roster have put them in the situation to go for a trade.

Snell seems like a great choice for the team, the one who could fulfill expectations they had from Spencer Strider. The trade could happen if the Giants also show interest in one of the Braves' non-polished rookie pitchers.

5) Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are over the luxury tax, so if they acquire Blake Snell, they would have to pay a 50% tax on Snell's salary.

It would be a huge deal for the Dodgers, because according to Brisbee, the Dodgers would love to have Snell on the team. They need a starting pitcher urgently because their rotation is being affected by injuries.
