American professional baseball pitcher Blake Ashton Snell was born on December 4, 1992, and is currently a free agent. He played with the Tampa Bay Rays and the San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball (MLB).


Snell was selected by the Rays in the first round of the 2011 MLB draft, and he made his Major League debut with the Rays in 2016. He won the AL Cy Young Award in 2018 when he was an All-Star and led the American League (AL) in wins and earned run average (ERA). Snell was traded by the Rays to the San Diego Padres prior to the 2021 season, and he won his second Cy Young Award in 2023.


Snell threw 180 innings in 2023, recording a 14–9 record and 234 strikeouts in 32 starts. In Major League Baseball, his ERA of 2.25, hits-per-nine innings (H/9) of 5.8, and ERA+ of 182 was the best. He also led the Majors with 99 walks. On November 14, Snell became a free agent after turning down the Padres' $20.25 million qualifying offer. Blake Snell’s Early Life

Snell participated in the baseball team at Shorewood High School in Shoreline, Washington. He worked out at a facility run by his father, a former minor league baseball player when he was in high school.


The Tampa Bay Rays selected Snell in the first round of the 2011 MLB drafts. He soon made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Rays where he was 1-2 with an ERA of 3.08 in 11 games. Until his debut, Snell had tenures with the Princeton Rays, Bowling Green Hot Rods, Charlotte Cubs, Stone Crabs, Montgomery Biscuits, and Durham Bells.
