The Chicago White Sox placed starting pitcher Mike Clevinger on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right wrist inflammation. The move was made retroactive to May 18.

Clevinger was holding down the fourth spot in a White Sox rotation that had been rounding into form during Chicago during what has been a difficult season so far. The team has not yet announced a corresponding move.

Mike Clevinger was 3-3 with a 4.56 ERA this season, although he had thrown well until an April 25 game against the Toronto Blue Jays, when he was shelled for six earned runs in five innings.

The Chicago White Sox starters' ERA was just 1.89 over the last five games heading into Sunday.

Mike Clevinger was once regarded as an up-and-coming hurler during his days with the Cleveland Guardians. However, his career fell on hard times after a trade to the San Diego Padres during the 2020 season.

He was lost for the 2021 season due to Tommy John surgery and did not reclaim his previous form for the Padres in 2022, going 7-7 with a 4.33 ERA.

Clevinger found himself in some hot water after signing with the White Sox this past offseason. On January 24, he was placed under investigation by MLB for alleged domestic violence and child abuse against his 10-month-old daughter and the baby's mother.

On March 5, the investigation closed and Clevinger did not face any discipline following the allegations. Still, opinions among the White Sox fan base remain divided.

As noted, Clevinger is certainly not a favorite of all fans on the south side of Chicago.

While his staff ace days with Cleveland are long since past, Clevinger is filling an important role as a rather dependable arm at the back end of the White Sox rotation.
