Fans troll Oakland A's as Esteury Ruiz clubs 2nd home run since being promoted to majors

It has been quite the eventful season for speedy outfielder Esteury Ruiz. The 25-year-old Dominican outfielder entered the 2024 campaign with lofty expectations, but he has been moved back and forth between the MLB and Triple-A to start the year.

After being recalled to the MLB on Monday, Esteury Ruiz has been making a statement and proving why he never should have been demoted to Triple-A. In his third game back in the major leagues, Ruiz has clubbed his second home run.

This time, Ruiz sent one over the fence during the Oakland Athletics' matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals.

For Ruiz, this was his fifth home run of the season. The fact that the speedster accomplished the feat in only his fifth game of the year only emphasized the idea that he never should have been demoted in the first place.

"This guy refuses to get on base, send him back down." - Someone joked

Many MLB fans took to social media to troll the Oakland Athletics front office and their decision to demote Esteury Ruiz in the first place. Many mocked the highlight of the home run, warning that the team might demote him again if he continues to get attention for performing well.

"Don’t post this or they’ll send him back to AAA" - One fan said
"send him back down IMMEDIATELY" - Another joked

Other, perhaps more aggressive, fans have said that there needs to be an investigation into the Oakland Athletics if he's not playing in the lineup every day. Although it may seem a bit drastic, there's no denying Ruiz's level of production and the questionable decision to demote him in the first place.

"He has 11 at bats and he is the 28th ranked FBB outfielder. Investigation in order if the As aren’t playing him every day." - One fan posted
"Maybe they’ll keep him up this time?" - Another chimed in

Esteury Ruiz's initial demotion was met with controversies and conspiracies

After recording a whopping 67 stolen bases last season, many were curious to see what Ruiz would be able to accomplish on the field this year. However, after only three games, the Oakland Athletics opted to demote Ruiz, frustrating many fans and analysts.

It sparked not only backlash from fans but a number of conspiracy theories as to why the club decided to make the decision. Some believe that the front office was doing its best to lose games to help facilitate their move out of Oakland.

"John Fisher is fuming rn" - One fan said

Others believed that the team was punishing Ruiz for allegedly supporting the Athletics fans' revolt against owner John Fisher. No matter the true meaning behind the demotion, Esteury Ruiz is up in the majors and continuing to slug.
