New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that starting pitcher Frankie Montas will be undergoing surgery on his injured shoulder on Feb. 21. MLB insider Joel Sherman shared the news on Twitter.
There is no fixed timeline on when Montas will return to action in the iconic pinstripes. If he does return this season, it will probably be toward the second half of the season. The surgery could potentially rule him out of the entire 2023 season, too. This could be a big blow for the team chasing their first World Series win since 2009.

Frankie Montas joined the Yankees in August 2022, along with Lou Trivino, as part of a trade with the Oakland Athletics. The deal saw JP Sears, Luis Medina, Ken Waldichuk and Cooper Bowman move to the other side. He was plagued with shoulder issues in 2022 and was reportedly expected to miss the start of the new season due to a shoulder inflammation. His last pitch for the club was on Sept. 16.
Frankie Montas performances for Yankees

The 29-year-old has had an unfortunate start to his career with the Yankees. He made eight starts for the team and posted 6.35 ERA, with a win-loss record of 1-3. This is a major setback for a team with title ambitions. With Aaron Judge in the form of his life, the Yankees are well placed to end their 14-year wait for the World Series.
