The Houston Astros had their offense stifled in a shocking 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins in 10 innings. The Astros are now 3-5, certainly not the start they were expecting for their World Series title defense. The Twins are on the other side of the coin as they are soaring past their expectations.

Kyle Farmer secured the win for Minnesota in the10th. He hit a bases-loaded single into the outfield that drove in the game-winning run. A walkoff hit to win the home opener is just about the perfect start to the season for the Twins. The Astros and their fans are left in the cloud of defeat, questioning their offseason.

Talkin' Baseball posted a clip of the electric ending to the game on Twitter.

The Astros have a huge target on their backs by virtue of being the reigning and defending World Series champions. They will take every team's best shot more often than not. This time, the Twins' best shot was barely enough to squeak out the win, even with a poor performance from former Astros shortstop Carlos Correa.

This game featured an uncharacteristically bad offensive performance from Jeremy Pena, who struck out four times. He hasn't had a good start to the season, with a batting average of .171. After Pena won World Series MVP, many expected 2023 to be his season to elevate himself to All-Star status. Until the return of Jose Altuve, the Houston Astros need someone to step up offensively.

The Minnesota Twins are making a compelling case that they should be the favorites to win the American League Central. The incumbent champion, the Cleveland Guardians, will not be easy to surpass, but it is more likely than originally believed.

The Twins pulled off the upset over the Astros in what was a thrilling game with an incredible ending.

This Houston Astros vs. Minnesota Twins series could be huge for both teams

The Houston Astros will almost certainly end the year as a top team, so they want this skid to end quickly. Getting off to a bad start can doom a team if it's not careful. The Minnesota Twins are hopeful that a hot start can propel them to a playoff spot.

We may be early in the MLB calendar, but this series is already shaping up to be one of the best.
