The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs recently finalized a trade for relief pitcher Yency Almonte and infielder Michael Busch. In return, the Dodgers will acquire two prospects from the Cubs. Shortly after the trade was announced, 29-year-old right-handed pitcher Almonte expressed his gratitude to the Dodgers fan base on Twitter.

"Thank you Dodger fans for welcoming me to the team and sticking with me through the good and the bad these past 2 seasons. You fans are truly amazing and fun to play in front of! My family and I are grateful to have experienced playing at Dodger stadium," Almonte tweeted.

In November, the Dodgers signed Yency Almonte to a $1.9 million contract, and he was expected to play a key role in the following season. However, the Dodgers needed to execute this strategic move to clear room on the 40-man roster and acquire two prospects from the Chicago Cubs.

Yency Almonte’s journey with the Dodgers

He had a 3-2 record in 49 appearances with a 5.06 ERA in 2023, a drop from his excellent 1.02 ERA in 33 games the previous season. However, a knee injury forced him to miss the rest of the season.

Almonte also faced challenges during his journey with the LA Dodgers. He struggled against the San Diego Padres during the postseason, with an ERA of 7.71 in 2.1 innings across three appearances. These scuffles may have played a role in the Dodgers' decision to change their roster and explore new opportunities.
