Isiah Kiner-Falefa is keeping an open mind after manager Aaron Boone used him in a variety of different positions during spring training. The veteran infielder finds his role as the New York Yankees' starting shortstop under threat with the emergence of Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe.

Kiner-Falefa, however, is approaching the upcoming season with a positive attitude. The 28-year-old was recently asked about his new role as utility man. He said:

"I just want to win...this is my dream to play here. Winning a World Series here would mean even more"

He also stated that the Yankees have a great opportunity to win a World Series and he wants to "be a part of it."

"IKF is fully embracing his utility role and just wants to help the Yankees win a World Series. You can hate on IKF all you want, but you have to respect him for these comments" - Fireside Yankees

The comments will be music to Aaron Boone's ears as he is in search of a day-to-day outfielder. The Yankees have been in the market for a left fielder. A recent injury to Harrison Bader adds to their concerns with a serious lack of depth in the outfield entering the season.

Boone used Kiner-Falefa in centerfield and left field during spring training. There has also been talk of him fitting in as a backup catcher.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa made a name for himself with the Texas Rangers organization, where he spent four seasons prior to joining the New York Yankees. In 392 regular-season games with the club, he recorded 16 home runs, 118 RBIs, 168 runs and 38 stolen bases.

Kiner-Falefa was recognized for his outstanding work in the field and was rewarded with a Gold Glove Award in 2020.

There were high hopes for Kiner-Falefa when the Yankees brought him over from the Minnesota Twins last year.

The right-hander is known for his fielding skills, ability to steal bases and his solid batting average.

Unfortunately, the move has not panned out as expected. He had a disappointing 2023 season with the bat and his defense was erratic.

Aaron Boone still sees a role on this roster for the versatile player. If Kiner-Falefa keeps and is open minded and keeps a positive attitude, there could be a place for him in this very talented New York Yankees team.
