Former Kansas City Royals star Lorenzo Cain has announced his retirement from MLB, with an official ceremony coming up in the summer. Cain was in the big leagues for 13-years, and is best known for winning the World Series in 2015 with the Royals. He was selected to the All-Star team twice in his career and won a Gold Glove award in 2019.

Lorenzo Cain's retirement as a member of the Kansas City Royals is fitting considering all he has accomplished with the team. He was arguably the best player on their World Series championship team in 2015, their first championship since 1985. He was named MVP of the American League Championship Series during the 2015 run.

The Athletic reported his retirement from the sport on Twitter, along with high praise from the Kansas City Royals' current general manager.

Royals fans were thrilled to hear that Cain will be holding his ceremony at one of their home games and retiring as a Royal. He spent almost as much time with the Milwaukee Brewers in his career, but Kansas City was home. After he helped bring the city a championship, they cannot wait for their opportunity to honor him properly.

Lorenzo Cain will be best remembered as an incredible defensive player and leader in MLB. He roamed centerfield masterfully, taking away numerous would-be hits from his opponents. With a career batting average of .283, he was a consistent offensive threat that had to be accounted for.

A player who is crucial in bringing a championship to a city starved for one will be legendary forever. Cain and the Royals brought their first major championship in a long time to Kansas City. Long before Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs made it an annual tradition.

Lorenzo Cain was the face of baseball in Kansas City, and his retirement ceremony will be emotional for all involved.

Cain's retirement ceremony will happen this season, but his legacy with the team will continue to be refined. With the general manager planning to put him in the team's Hall of Fame, this is only the beginning. The Kansas City Royals have not been close to winning a championship since 2015, and they likely won't be close anytime soon.

They will honor the player who led them to the promised land this year, and for many years to come.
