Juan Soto is expected to sweep in some great offers in the upcoming weeks. As per ESPN's Buster Olney, Soto had meetings this offseason with the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, and his previous team, the New York Yankees.
Soto has been a hot commodity in free agency after he slashed .288 while hitting a career-high 41 home runs in 157 games last season. He was third in the AL MVP voting.
The Toronto Blue Jays are strong contenders to land Soto, but MLB insider Robert Murray said the one year remaining in the contracts of Blue Jays stars Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette could pose an issue in signing Soto.
"You look at the Blue Jays they are in a very different situation than the New York Mets, because the Mets are coming off of a season where they almost advanced to the World Series. They have a strong foundation in place especially with Francisco Lindor signing long term," Murray said.
"And if you look at the Blue Jays they're coming off of a very underwhelming season, you have Vlad Jr and Bichette entering the final years of their contract, and there's been by all counts no progress on any extension talks there whatsoever."
At the same time, Murray believes that signing Juan Soto wouldn't really be the key to the other predominant issue present in the Blue Jays.
"The Blue Jays to me, do not look like a team that is close to contending because they have a lot of holes to fill this offseason and it's not just like sign Soto and everything's going to be okay. If they sign Soto, they would need to add five six seven other players and then you can end up looking at a contender, that's a lot to get done at one offseason," he added.
Juan Soto receives full support from Aaron Judge in any decision that he takes
Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, who defeated Juan Soto in the race for the AL MVP award, extended his support to Soto's decision during free agency.
"I haven’t talked to him at all," Judge said. "I think the best thing is to really give those guys space. You know I talked to him all season and he knows how we feel about him and I think the most important thing is now letting him do his thing with his family, pray about it, talk with people and come to the right decision for him and his family."
