It's not only players who find new homes in the offseason but also coaches who keep on looking for potential opportunities. In one such instance, the New York Yankees have added a new coach to their staff, hiring Brad Ausmus as the team's bench coach. The move has been appreciated in the Yankees fraternity, and Bryan Hoch gave his take on SNY regarding the hiring.

Hoch was surprised that Ausmus went for the bench coach job instead of a managerial role:

"I think it's great when you have a guy who's been around the clubhouse," Hoch said. "Obviously, he knows his way around and will be able to connect with the players in there.
"I am kind of surprised that at this stage he went for the bench coach job. He would have liked to sit in that managing position, so a little shift in here, but he must have looked at the way the market was following. This could be his fastest route to get back in the dugout."

However, the analyst believes it will give manager Aaron Boone a sight of trust in the dugout:

"It gives Aaron Boone a trusting voice who he can lean onto and manage the game."

Brad Ausmus' coaching career

The newly hired Yankees bench coach retired from his playing career in 2010. Soon after in 2011, the San Diego Padres hired him as a field executive, and stayed with them for two years before moving on to the Detroit Tigers for a managerial role in 2013.

He became the Tigers' 38th manager, succeeding Jim Leyland, and also became the second youngest coach in MLB's history at age 45. Ausmus led the Tigers to a 90-72 record and the American League Central division title in his debut season as manager.

However, following a few down years, the Tigers decided not to extend his contract in 2017. He then joined the LA Angels as a special assistant to general manager Billy Eppler for the 2018 season.

Prior to the 2019 season, he replaced Mike Scioscia as the Angels' general manager but was dismissed following the conclusion of the season. Prior to Yankees recruitment, Brad Ausmus was the bench coach with the Oakland Athletics.
