The New York Yankees have designated outfielder Aaron Hicks for assignment on Saturday. The team signed outfielder Greg Allen to a contract just the day before on Friday, which seems to have sparked the decision.

Hicks, who is 33, has struggled the last few seasons for the Bronx Bombers, especially at the plate. Over the last two seasons, he's failed to hit above .217 and is currently hitting .188 on the season.

The decision to DFA Hicks comes right after the Yankees acquired Allen. They traded pitcher Diego Hernandez and cash considerations to the Boston Red Sox for him.

This won't be the first time Allen is putting on the pinstripes. He was with the organization during the 2021 season, where he saw limited action on the field, appearing in only 15 games for the Yankees.

"This is the greatest day of my life" one fan tweeted.
"World Series is back on" another fan tweeted.

New York Yankees fans couldn't be happier to see that the team has DFA'd Aaron Hicks. It's the best move for both parties, as Hicks wasn't happy with the lack of playing time he had been getting.

This has been something that fans have been asking for for quite some time now. This move has brought a new sense of excitement around the fanbase.

Parting ways with Aaron Hicks was the right move by the New York Yankees

Aaron Hicks still had $30 million left on his contract with the New York Yankees in 2019. At the same time, it seemed like a great idea. It just didn't work out. It's better to DFA him and give him a chance elsewhere than to keep him on the roster if you don't believe in him.

The move couldn't come at a better time, either. The Yankees are starting to turn it around after struggling to start the season. They've won their last four out of five games and are charging up the division.

Aaron Judge has been on fire since returning from the IL. He's surged for seven home runs in the last seven days.

The Yankees are also expecting some key players to return from the IL. Pitcher Luis Severino is scheduled to be back with the team on Sunday. Giancarlo Stanton is also getting ready to start a rehab stint. He's been on the IL since April 16th with a hamstring injury.

The Bronx Bombers are building momentum as we get deeper into the season.
