New York Yankees fans enraged as Oswald Peraza misses out on Opening Day roster: "All because no one wants IKF"

Oswald Peraza #91 of the New York Yankees warms up before the game against the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series at Minute Maid Park on October 19, 2022 in Houston, Texas.

It looks like Anthony Volpe won the battle of the rookies after Oswald Peraza was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Yankees announced on Sunday post their 6-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

"Oswald Peraza has been optioned to Triple A, per @Yankees," Talkin' Yanks, Twitter

Peraza started spring training as the favorite to begin at shortstop on the back of a seriously impressive debut season where in 49 at bats he hit .306/.404/.429 in 16 games.

He, however, came up short in achieving that goal during spring training, with Anthony Volpe playing lights out. Volpe culminated in a terrific preseason in which he hit .314 with three homers.

Volpe and Oswaldo Cabrera secured themselves a seat on the team's Opening Day roster, the organization announced on Sunday, which put Oswald Peraza's place on the team in jeopardy and finally culminated in him being sent down to the minors.

Yankees fans were left baffled by his exclusion and took to Twitter to express their feelings. Most weren't very happy.

While this fan's frustration is understandable, others will be hoping Isiah Kiner-Falefa repays the Yankees organization for the faith they've had in him since Day 1.

He might be a veteran but don't underestimate Josh Donaldson's contribution to the team ever. He's an absolute machine.

Yes, while one can't help but feel happy for Volpe, spare a thought for Peraza. He played well last year and backed it with a semi-decent spring outing. He will, however, get consistent at-bats in the minors and should be one of the first names on the list of potential call-ups if the New York Yankees need assistance mid-season.

Oswald Peraza's baseball journey

Peraza signed with the Yankees as an international free agent in July 2016 and made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Yankees in 2017.

After playing through several minor league teams with the Yankees, Peraza finally made his MLB debut in 2022. The 22-year-old rookie played 18 games for the Bronx Bombers last year, hitting .306 with one home run, two RBIs and two stolen bases.
