New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has had the opportunity to do a lot of experimentation so far this preseason. It now appears as though he is closing in on what could amount to an Opening Day lineup.

The Yankees are one of the most highly skilled teams. From pitching to hitting, they put up numbers that are at or near the top of the MLB leaderboard. Naturally, this allows for a little wiggle room when it comes to trying out different offensive combinations.

Young infielders like Anthony Volpe, the Yankees' 2019 first overall pick, have been making strides, and some now think that he has a chance at the second base position. Second baseman Gleyber Torres is coming off his best season in years and will provide some competition for the young Volpe.

Moreover, Venezuelan youngster Oswaldo Peraza has been making a case to be installed at shortstop. The position was manned by Isiah Kiner-Falefa last year. IKF came to the Yankees in a trade with the Minnesota Twins alongside Josh Donaldson and did little to win fans over after hitting just .261/.314/.327 in 142 appearances.

Ahead of Thursday's game against the Boston Red Sox, Aaron Boone unveiled the lineup. It features Anthony Volpe at second base and hitting in the leadoff spot.

He is backed up by Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton in the next three spots. The heavily-hitted trio accounted for around half of the Yankees' home runs last season.

Fans are loving the lineup, with many saying that they would love to see it enacted on opening day. In addition to Anthony Volpe, Oswaldo Peraza is filling in at shortstop and batting sixth.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa was absent from the lineup after Aaron Boone recently stated that the Hawaiians may be playing in the outfield with increased frequency this year.

Is Anthony Volpe ready to hit leadoff for the New York Yankees this season?

Anthony Volpe is gaining invaluable experience this preseason. Although he has only appeared in six games, the 21-year-old already has a home run, a double and three walks.

It remains to be seen if he will be able to crack the starting 9. Even if he doesn't, he has plenty of stardom ahead of him. As for the New York Yankees, they will likely be just as fine as they have always been.
