On October 30, the LA Dodgers defeated the Yankees to win the 2024 World Series. The fact that the series culminated before Halloween was quite a blessing for one fan.
On Halloween, a picture surfaced from an X account belonging to a fan. The setup in front of his home featured three tombstones - each one reserved for a club that was beaten by the Dodgers en route to their 2024 World Series victory.
The spooky diorama came one day ahead of the LA Dodgers' victory parade in downtown LA, which saw thousands attend. Manager Dave Roberts' club went 12-5 in the postseason to capture the title.
The first series of the postseason for LA was the NLDS against the San Diego Padres, bitter divisional rivals. The Dodgers had their backs against the wall after the Friars went out in front 2-1. However, an 8-0 victory in Game 4 paved the way for clutch home runs by Kike and Teoscar Hernandez to clinch the series in Game 5.
"TEOSCAR HERNANDEZ HITS A SOLO HOME RUN OFF YU DARVISH TO GIVE THE DODGERS A MUCH NEEDED INSURANCE RUN! GIVE THIS MAN A BLANK CHECK AND MAKE SURE HE SPENDS THE REST OF HIS CAREER IN DODGER BLUE." - Doug McKain
Next up were the New York Mets. A Wild Card team who had just snuck into the postseason, many expected the Dodgers to make quick work of them. However, the Mets drew even in Game 2, sending the series back to Queens tied. It was in this series that Shohei Ohtani came alive, hitting .364 with 2 homers and 6 RBIs to advance to his first-ever World Series.
Finally, it was time to face the New York Yankees, who amassed the AL's best record in 2024. After LA went up 3-0, the Bombers battled back with an 11-4 win in Game 4. In Game 5, LA overcame a five-run deficit, scoring five unearned runs off of Gerrit Cole to win their first World Series since 2020.
LA Dodgers World Series win inspires Halloween fun
Around LA and beyond, many fans took inspiration from the Dodgers to help craft their own Halloween costumes. One such fan was nine-year-old Ryan Cortez from Covina, California, who dressed as a Shohei Ohtani baseball card. Talk about marketing a club for the holiday!
