The Boston Red Sox offense failed to turn up against the Los Angeles Angels as they fell 2-1 in a low-scoring thriller on the road in LA. The Halos' pitching wasn't extraordinary but was enough to curtail the scoring opportunities for Boston.

The Red Sox offense got only four hits throughout the game with their solitary run coming in the sixth inning against Angels reliever Aaron Loup. Masataka Yoshida, who had two hits in the game, drove in a single RBI as Connor Wong scored after an initial double. Rafael Devers was the other batter who got a hit for Boston.

In the pitching department, there was little concern as Tanner Houck had given the Red Sox a wonderful start. Houck conceded just 3 hits over one earned run in six innings pitched. He struck out eight Angels batters, including twice each against Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout.

A home run in the eighth inning by Mickey Moniak, who is making a strong claim to become a regular outfielder for the Angels, ended Boston's hopes. The game folded mid-ninth with the Red Sox unable to reply.

Their fans took to Twitter to voice their frustration with their lackluster offense:

Red Sox are falling behind after a strong start to the month

Boston was red hot when they started the month with six straight wins. Since then, they have lost their way a bit, losing six of their last 10.

They are currently fourth in the AL East standings with a 26-22 record, just ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays. With a strong division that boasts the likes of the two best teams in the leagues (the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays) and also has the New York Yankees, the Red Sox have to get back on track and quickly.

We will see if they can in the coming games.
