With the 2024 MLB season over, fans are already looking forward to the 2025 season. Recently, FOX Sports took to its X account to release a list of odds regarding the top contending clubs for next year's title.
With +400 odds, the Dodgers are favored to go back-to-back. After pledging a historic amount of cash to new talent during the offseason, LA won the 2024 World Series on October 30.
"Presenting the way-too-early odds to win the 2025 World Series @BearBetsPod" - FOX Sports: MLB
As any baseball fan could have anticipated, there was far from universal agreement regarding the odds. Several fans took to commenting beneath the graphic with suggestions that they believed would make the rankings more realistic.
The biggest point of contention was the exclusion of the Cleveland Guardians, who did not appear on the list at all. In 2024, Cleveland amassed an AL-best 50 home wins en route to finishing with a record of 92-69. Anchored by Emmanuel Clase, Cleveland also boasted the best bullpen regular-season ERA in MLB.
"At worst, Padres should be fourth on that list" - opined a fan
"#Yankees more like +7000 with Aaron Boone as manager" - claimed a disillusioned New York supporter
"Padres are a value bet" - said another
Many fans were also puzzled by the fact that the San Diego Padres were not included on the list of MLB clubs. Not only did San Diego tout the second-best record in baseball between August 1 and September 30, but the Friars also took the Dodgers to the end of a scintillating Game 5 of the NLDS.
However, more than anything, fans lambasted the account for the premature nature of these predictions. Many of the teams in question - notably the New York Yankees - could see some drastic roster changes that will impact their viability.
"You're right it's way too early" - spat a parody account
"The way too early" - wrote another
"Hop up something ain’t right" - was a final point
2025 MLB predictions are beginning to roll in
Since last Wednesday, thousands of fans and writers have put out their predictions for next season. Among them was Jon Hoefling, who wrote in USA Today:
"The Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorites yet again, and rightfully so. The best bet elsewhere on this list is the Baltimore Orioles."
There are certainly indicators that point to LA, but after all, this is baseball, and absolutely anything can happen.
