“They’re not hitting … they’re not pitching” - Former White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen reflects on team’s miserable 21-game losing streak

To say the Chicago White Sox 2024 campaign has been a disaster would be the understatement of the decade. It's been nearly impossible to find much optimism around the organization outside of Garrett Crochet, who is enjoying a breakout season. Besides that oasis, it has been painful for Chicago fans to witness their latest club.

After making the postseason in 2021, the Chicago White Sox have steadily sunken into the MLB depths. Once seen as a promising up-and-coming roster, the club has traded several valuable assets to secure prospects and building blocks for the future.

While this process is difficult for fans, it has also been frustrating for former White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen. The two-time World Series champion remains critical of the organization, particularly manager Pedro Grifol, for how they have operated during their current 21-game losing streak. "Everything he says, I disagree with him," Guillen said on a recent episode of Foul Territory.

"I don't like the way he talks to the media after the game or to the fans after the game," Guillen said of Pedro Grifol. "I'm not saying it's Pedro's fault they're not hitting; it's not Pedro's fault they're not pitching," he continued, questioning Grifol's handling of the clubhouse. "The feedback, what we hear from Pedro every day, I disagree with 1000%," Guillen explained.

Ozzie Guillen's statements are harsh, but given the team's labored performances, someone had to say them. Entering Tuesday's action, the Chicago White Sox have a 27-88 record and appear to be going nowhere fast.

The 2024 Chicago White Sox are on the verge of joining the record books for all the wrong reasons

They say any publicity is good publicity. However, this should not apply to the current White Sox squad that is on the precipice of etching its name in the MLB history book. The Philadelphia Phillies set the all-time consecutive losing streak in 1961 when they lost 23 straight games.

Fast-forward to 2024, and the Chicago White Sox could not only tie that record but, judging by the state of things, shatter it. The Sox will play two more games against the Oakland Athletics, and if they lose those games, their cross-town rival Chicago Cubs could defeat them for their 24th consecutive loss.
