Former Astros first baseman Trey Mancini can't wait to kick off an exhilarating first season with the Cubs.

It's a team he has held in high regard based on their rich vein of form recently, and also because of their compelling mix of exciting young prospects and seasoned veterans.

Mancini signed a two-year contract with the Cubs in January after the Houston Astros declined his option for 2023.

Mancini recently revealed to Stephen Nelson and Yonder Alonso of MLB Network that it was indeed the Chicago Cubs' postseason run of form and the prospect of playing with an exhilarating new team that were the reason behind his move to Chicago.

“Yea even before I signed with the Cubs I took notice of all the moves that were being made, and you know such an exciting team, and was an exciting team before. I didn’t even know till I signed how well they finished the year last year. So, when you have that mixed with the guys that we brought in, I think it’s a recipe for a real fun year,” Trey Mancini told Stephen Nelson and Yonder Alonso on MLB Network.

When he was quizzed about the benefit of having numerous winners and veterans in the Cubs fold, he said:

“It’s really fun. You know those of us veterans; we’ve been through a lot. We know what it takes to win and how the clubhouse feels should be. So, I think, that’s really valuable for this team,” Trey said.

Finally, his personal goals for the upcoming season include rediscovering some of his old form and going back to hitting the ball from the middle of the stick.

“I want to get back to driving the ball of the middle opposite field, like I can. I think. For whatever reason last year I had some swing deficiencies at times and was pulling the ball a little more than I normally had, so kinda just get back to using the big part of the field,” he concluded.

Trey Mancini fought the biggest of battles

Trey Mancini, a first baseman in the league, was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the eighth round of the 2013 MLB draft and made his league debut in 2016 with them.

He shocked the MLB when he was diagnosed with colon cancer in early 2020, which kept him out for the entire season. Mancini returned to baseball in 2021 and was subsequently traded to the Houston Astros, where he won the biggest coup of them all, the prized 2022 World Series.
