On Saturday, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum organized an honorary game as a tribute to the legacy of the Negro League. The "Hall of Fame East-West Classic: A Tribute to the Negro Leagues All-Star Game” featured several former Major Leaguers as well as the Hall of Famers like Ken Griffey Jr., Ozzie Smith, and Joe Torre.

Former Milwaukee Brewers All-Star first baseman Prince Fielder was also invited to attend the game. He was part of the West team, under the leadership of former New York Yankees legend CC Sabathia. Fielder, 40, showed fans at Cooperstown’s Doubleday Field that even after staying out of the league for almost eight years, he hasn’t lost his power.

The game was followed by the Museum’s special exhibition opening “The Souls: Voices of Black Baseball” to share the rich history of Black Baseball that can be dated even before the Negro League came into existence.

Team East emerged victorious in Cooperstown, despite Prince Fielder’s power poser

Team East was under the leadership of former league All-Star Chris Young. His lineup had prominent ex-players like Josh Barfield, Tony Gwynn Jr., Ryan Howard, Adam Jones, and David Prince.

The East team won the game 5-4 in the six innings. Former Philadelphia Phillies fan-favorite and NL MVP Ryan Howard was named player of the game for his three-run moon shot in the fifth against Tyson Ross. The former World Series winner reflected on the occasion that brought the community together.

“It's always been a fraternity,” Howard said after the game, via MLB.com. “The cool part about it is you have your teammates that you play with coming up in the Minor Leagues."
"And a lot of the guys you play against at each level in the Minor Leagues, so in a sense you're coming up together with them, as well. … And just to have this kind of brotherhood and continue to have it is special.”

The special event in Cooperstown made fans nostalgic with so many greats of the game from different times and eras present yesterday, showing the beauty of the sport.
