World Baseball Classic Quarterfinals: United States v Venezuela
Jose Altuve of Venezuela has had an injury-plagued career.

Jose Altuve, the second baseman for the Houston Astros, is a professional baseball player who plays in Major League Baseball.

The Venezuelan is a six-time All-Star and a former MVP of the American League and has been a key player for the Astros since joining them in 2011. However, Altuve has had his fair share of injuries over the years. His latest injury, a broken right thumb during the World Baseball Classic quarterfinal against the US, is the latest setback in his chequered health history.

One of the most notable injuries Altuve has experienced was a right knee injury in 2018. He suffered the injury in July and was placed on the disabled list for the first time in his MLB career for a few weeks. However, he returned to play in August and ended the season as the designated hitter for the Astros. At the end of the season, Altuve underwent surgery to repair a patella avulsion fracture in his right knee.

In May 2019, Altuve suffered a left hamstring injury. He returned to action a month later after missing 35 games for the Astros. Since then, he has had several minor injuries, including a knee problem in 2020 and several other injuries in 2022. In the 2022 season, he had problems with his hamstring, groin, knee, shoulder and elbow but still finished the season with impressive numbers and the World Series title.

Most recently, Altuve suffered a broken right thumb during the 2023 WBC quarterfinal against the US. The injury will require surgery, and he's expected to miss several weeks of the MLB regular season. However, Altuve is known for his quick recovery, so the Astros are hopeful that he will be back in action soon.

Jose Altuve set to miss opening two months of MLB season after injury in WBC

Jose Altuve is expected to be on the injury list for the first 8-10 weeks of the MLB season. The Houston Astros will look at potential options to cover for his duties at second base at the start of the season. The two-time World Series winner will be eager to start his recovery back to fitness.

Jose Altuve has dealt with several injuries throughout his career but has shown tremendous resilience and determination in overcoming them. His latest injury is undoubtedly a setback, but Astros fans can rest assured that their star second baseman will be back on the field as soon as possible.
